SUMMARY:Yankee Doodle Day
DESCRIPTION:“Yankee Doodle Homecoming\,” which launched its first celebration in 1991 was a brainstorm of a community’s civic leader\, Donald Donati.  The idea was conceived at a fall town meeting in 1988 when Billerica declared itself as “America’s Yankee Doodle Hometown.”  The town’s bursting-with-pride slogan was an ultimate result of the excavation of the town’s noble patriotic heritage.  The moniker\, “Yankee Doodle Town” came directly from the colonial history: A local farmer\, Thomas Ditson was tarred and feathered at Boston Common in March 1775 by British soldiers.  Then he was paraded around the streets of Boston to a derogatory version of “Yankee Doodle Dandy” as a punishment for his attempt to make an “illegal” deal to purchase a “musket” from a British soldier.\n \nFor more information. \nFor flyer information click here.
